High Five for Fridays! Kiva

When Life Hands You Little Victories…

{You celebrate & drink Starbucks}

Greetings my little love bugs, and Happy Friday to you! I hope you all have had a wonderful week, and if you are anything like me you are ready for the weekend. Me even more so, as we are heading to Dublin for the weekend before lil sis heads back to America on Monday. Her flight is Dublin → Chicago → Seattle on Monday, so we thought it would be fun to do the weekend in Dublin as a last European adventure. And besides, I love Dublin. The city has a fantastic energy, everyone is so friendly and welcoming and who doesn’t like drinking Guinness at 2pm? Yes please!  Knowing that we have a fun weekend ahead makes this Friday even a bit more sweet. Knowing that it is our last weekend with my sister here in the UK? A bit bittersweet. But, never fear kittens, as we are USA bound three weeks from today! And I can assure you, that those short 21 days will fly by! Yippee indeed!

Want to know another “Yippee” moment? Starbucks selifes. {By the way, did you hear that Oxford Dictionaries announced that selifie  is the word of the year for 2013? I like to think that I helped with that a bit.}

{And yes, those are elephants on my scarf. That’s how I roll on a Friday. Whoop whoop!}

Another massive highlight of my week was finishing my latest read: The Signature of All Things. I plan on writing a little diddy post about it, but the short: epically beautiful. And what makes it even better? Elizabeth Gilbert (author of The Signature of All Things, the very one who wrote Eat, Pray, Love) favorited one of my tweets. Small victories, right? Small victories.

Another personal and blogging highlight was announcing my next non-profit endeavor between myself, my blog and my lovely readers through funding grassroots loans through an organization called Kiva. As I announced on Wednesday, I will be doing a loan each month, supporting economic growth in developing nations through monies raised by sponsorship sales. {Exciting I know.} I am offering a 25% off promo until today, just use KIVAFUND to get started. Check out the post here or learn about Kiva here.

So, I guess this week was filled with some pretty good moments. Oh, and did I mention we had hot cocoa night, red velvet cupcakes while cozied up to watch Revenge on Wednesday. No kidding, kind of the best three hours of tv watching in a while.

Keeping that warm fuzzy feeling going, let me share with you a few of my faves from the week:

Thursday morning, as I was getting ready for work Neal just “had” to show me this video. And I am so glad he did. It made me smile all day, hope it does the same for you.

Melyssa is heading back to California, and has spent the week sharing her thoughts on Japan. This of course included another Musings by Monja, that totally made me smile. {Safe travels Mel!}

Chelsea shares the Ups & Downs of being an expat, and she hits the nail on the head, “All I’m trying to say is that there are times when it’s gets tough and it’s not glamorous and exciting all the time.”

Nicole went out to a game reserve in South Africa this week, and saw elephants in person! {Ahhh!} I am jealous of course, but love her for sharing the pics!

Rachel had fantastic tips for traveling with an expensive camera. If you are heading out on a trip this holiday season, check out this post practical advice!

I am a US Air Force officer transplanted from the Florida Panhandle to the middle of Germany this past June, but I was born in Michigan and claim Illinois as home. Such is life in the military! I have been bitten with the travel bug, but have yet to venture out beyond a day trip. To solve that, I booked a week long solo vacation to Spain for the week of Thanksgiving. When I’m not jaunting around the local area or daydreaming about my upcoming trip, I’m doting on my beagle, Doc Marten. It may drive other people crazy to hear it, but I really do think of him as my child and treat him as such.

Tell me Megan, what makes your heart sing? Finding beauty in nature, laughter, puppies, elephants, and travel guides make my heart sing!

Give me five words to describe yourself:  inquisitive, caring, mischievous, cautiously adventurous

So Megan, why do you blog? I blog because I feel the need to share the beauty I see in the world. Seeing a beautiful leaf changing colors, a stranger lost in thought on a park bench, or a sunset highlighting the intricate detail in the architecture of a building all make me stop and take notice. I want others to share that experience with me. Beauty is not meant to be hoarded and jealously guarded; we must share the moments that take our breath away.

If we were going to have a coffee date, what would I treat you to? A salted caramel mocha or chai tea latte, please!

What is something we would be surprised to learn about you? I can fly a (small) plane. Takeoff and maneuvering are super fun, but landing makes me want to vomit every time!.

What does a perfect Saturday look like to you? It would have to have about 36 hours in it so I could go for a hike with my pup to take pics of the beautiful scenery, followed by college football for hours on end, and then a home cooked meal on the couch while watching a great movie.

 Megan, and her blog, are wonderfully lovely filled with her adventures in Germany.  She has a fantastic spirit of exploration, and that comes through in her blog for sure! I love when Megan shares local travel, like to Heidelberg . Or the elephant “parade” in Luxembourg. Or when she chats about her “must haves” for a European day trip. {Good list!} But since she is currently serving in the American military, she has a fantastic outlook on life abroad and back home. Megan just went to Washington D.C. and the posts from that trip are a treat.

Make sure you pop on over and tell Megan hello!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I can’t wait for our city break in Dublin! I will be sure to cheer you a Guinness when we are there! What about you? What was the highlight of your week? What are you looking forward to this weekend?
